Olympic Champion Ryan Lochte Baptized: “I Rededicated My Life to Jesus Christ”

Twelve-time Olympic medalist and one of the most decorated swimmers in history, Ryan Lochte, has publicly declared that he has rededicated his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized this week.

In an emotional social media post accompanied by a photo of the baptism, the 41-year-old American swimming legend wrote:

“I have learned that the only thing that truly matters is what God thinks of me. I made the decision to rededicate my life to Jesus and today I was baptized!

🙌

”Lochte, who has won 6 Olympic gold medals and held multiple world records, and competed in four Olympic Games, has been open in recent years about the personal struggles and mistakes that brought him to a place of brokenness. Today he testifies that surrendering his life to Christ has given him a peace and purpose he never found in medals, fame, or worldly success.

“This is the greatest victory of my life,” Lochte continued in his post. “Jesus saved me, forgave me, and gave me a brand-new start. If He can change someone like me, He can change anyone.

”The swimmer’s public profession of faith has already touched thousands, with many responding that his testimony has encouraged them to consider (or return to) a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Ryan Lochte now joins a growing number of elite athletes who openly proclaim that true fulfillment is found not on the podium, but at the foot of the cross.

Jesus said, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16) and “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). Ryan Lochte came thirsty and found living water.

If the story of an Olympic champion laying down his medals to follow Jesus moves you, know this: the same Savior who redeemed Ryan is calling you today. He stands ready to forgive every sin, heal every hurt, and give you a new life that no gold medal can match.

All it takes is a simple prayer: “Jesus, I need You. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my old life and give my life to You. Be my Lord and Savior.”

Today can be your baptism day, too, the day everything changes.

Welcome to the family, Ryan. Heaven is rejoicing, and so are we.
